FIRST Robotics is an exciting program that brings together students from around the world to design, build, and compete with robots. Founded in 1989 by inventor Dean Kamen, FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a nonprofit organization that aims to inspire young people to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields.

The FIRST Robotics program is divided into different levels, each designed for a specific age group. The FIRST Lego League Jr. is for children aged 6-10, the FIRST Lego League is for children aged 9-16, the FIRST Tech Challenge is for students in grades 7-12, and the FIRST Robotics Competition is for high school students aged 14-18.

The FIRST Robotics Competition is the flagship program of the FIRST organization. In this program, teams of high school students work together to design, build, and program a robot to compete in a series of challenges. Each year, the competition has a different theme and challenge, which is revealed at the beginning of the season.

The challenge is not just about building a robot, but also about teamwork, problem-solving, and communication skills. Teams have six weeks to design and build their robot before competing in regional competitions. The winning teams from the regional competitions move on to the FIRST Championship, where they compete against other top teams from around the world.

The FIRST Robotics Competition is about more than just winning, however. The program is designed to give students a real-world engineering experience and to inspire them to pursue careers in STEM fields. Students learn about engineering design, computer programming, and project management, as well as teamwork, leadership, and communication skills.

In addition to the technical skills, the FIRST Robotics program also emphasizes the importance of community involvement and outreach. Teams are encouraged to give back to their communities by volunteering and sharing their knowledge and skills with others.

Participating in the FIRST Robotics program can have a profound impact on students’ lives. Not only do they gain valuable technical and soft skills, but they also develop a passion for STEM fields and become part of a global community of like-minded individuals.
